Popular Podcast Continues to Lead the Online Yoga Revolution
Denver, CO May 12, 2008 – The free podcast “20 Minute Yoga Sessions” from YogaDownload.com, an online virtual yoga studio, has surpassed one million downloads. In April 2007 YogaDownload.com began offering 20-30 minute podcast classes in a wide variety of yoga styles, each with a printable pose guide. These podcast classes can easily be downloaded as either an audio only class or audio with a yoga pose slideshow.
“I began the podcast not only as a way for people to sample the longer versions of YogaDownload.com classes, but also as a way to bring quick, free classes to everyone,” owner Jamie Kent explains. “Finding the time to maintain one’s yoga practice is increasingly difficult. Everyday life places so many stresses and time constraints on people that it is understandable they have difficulty getting to a studio for a class. With these 20 minute podcast classes, people have the opportunity to take a rewarding yoga class on their own schedule in a short amount of time.”
As of mid-March when the millionth download was reached, there were over five thousand subscribers choosing from twenty-eight episodes. Each episode features various top yoga instructors from YogaDownload.com who use their experience in an assortment of yoga styles to present in-depth yet concise classes. To assist with proper yoga form, there is the option of downloading and printing a companion pose guide, or choosing the pose slide show version. The slide show versions of each episode display the pose images in various media players or video capable iPods.
The response to 20 Minute Yoga Sessions has catapulted it to a #1 rank amongst all Fitness and Nutrition podcasts on iTunes. In the sizeable iTunes Health podcast category, it has risen to a rank of # 6, and maintains a 5 out of 5 star rating. While its popularity on iTunes continues to grow, it is also ranked #41 for number of subscribers out of over 200,000 podcasts listed by FeedBurner.com (a leading directory for blogs and podcasts that was recently purchased by Google).
The idea for Yogadownload.com first came to Jamie when she was visiting a friend, and fellow yoga practitioner,
in San Diego. "We wanted to go to a park on the beachfront and do some yoga. So we went to the
park and fumbled through some of the poses we were familiar with, but there was a marked absence
of flow that you usually get from a real yoga class. I thought about how nice it would be to
have a class on an iPod that we could have played together and taken a real class in the park
that day."
Yogadownload.com provides professional quality audio MP3 files of guided online yoga classes and
other fitness workouts, catering to a wide range of styles, experience levels and strengths.
Each class is accompanied by professional music and can be played on any iPod or other MP3
player, computer or compatible cell phone.
The process for purchasing and downloading files from the website www.yogadownload.com and
uploading onto an MP3 player, or making a CD, are similar to the process for downloading and
uploading any other MP3 file. The classes range in price from $1.95 to $5.95, and once purchased,
can be played by the purchaser without limit.
Kent notes that "with Yogadownload.com people from all over the globe have access to a library of quality,
inexpensive yoga classes that they can use over and over again. And the best part is that they can take a
class in any room of their house, or anywhere they want, anytime they want. It is like a
24-hour-a-day personal yoga studio for everyone!"
Kent has high hopes for the future and many innovative plans for her virtual yoga studio. In addition
to adding new classes every two weeks, with varying instructors and styles, she will be
offering printable companion guides that show proper form for the corresponding poses for each
class.
Portable yoga classes offered at YogaDownload.com are available now, and the printable
companion guides will be available at the end of November.
