Invest in Your Health for Long-Term Benefit
On May 16, 2015 in

by
Hayley
I often hear people talk about how expensive it is to be healthy; that organic food is so much more expensive than regular food, that joining a gym or taking yoga classes all seem pricey, but you could just as easily drop $300 a month at Starbucks. I consider the money I spend now on my health a long term investment, because I don’t want to have problems with my bones or organs when I get older. Here are some ways that I invest in my health:

For the Mompreneurs Who Want it All
On April 20, 2015 in

If I were to ask you what a working Mom looks like, would you imagine power suit and latte, or something picked out from last weeks laundry and sippy cup? The truth is, most of us are somewhere in-between, wishing we were polished and hoping no one noticed the stains, yet somehow we make it happen. This is my life as a Mompreneur.

Eating Healthy While Traveling
On February 15, 2015 in

Travel is one of the hardest times to eat healthy. Your schedule is thrown off and it seems like the food options around you are all fat, salt and sugar. The good news is that better options are available in ways they never have been before. Here are my suggestions for how to keep from tipping the scale when you get home.

When the Seasons Change
On November 3, 2014 in

My alarm went off this morning, and it was cold and dark out. This is nothing new in Boulder in the mornings, even if it gets up to 70 midday, but the sun is coming up later and later, and all I wanted to do was hide under my blankets. It was everything I could do to get out of bed. The thought of winter coming was just too depressing. Laying there, thoughts peeped into my head about how to stay motivated with my exercise routine and just in general stay positive and in a good mood. There are actually a lot of things to look forward to over the next few months, as it gets colder, and colder… and colder.

Water-berry Essential Lemonade

It’s really hard to know how much sugar you’re getting in those self serve frozen yogurt places and even in the organic ice pops that you get in the grocery store. Too much sugar can lead to dehydration and rob you of nutrients you really want your body to have in the heat of the summer.

The Truth (and Tales) about Water
On June 24, 2014 in

Remember how you used to be told that if you were feeling thirsty, you were already dehydrated? Well, that isn’t true. Your body isn’t designed to tell you when you’re too late, it’s designed to trigger the thirst mechanism when it is time to drink something – BEFORE you are dehydrated!

Cell Phone Mindfulness
On June 16, 2014 in

It was 9am and I had already been on the phone for almost 2 hours. I knew the rest of my day would be more of the same. I ducked into yoga just to get away from it for 90 min, but all I could hear was bzzzzz, bzzzzzz, bzzzzzz. Was I really getting that many text messages in a row? 90 min later, I really did have 45 new text messages, 6 new FB messages, 18 emails and 3 voicemails. I was glad my Vetiver oil and Savasana had me calm or I probably would have had an anxiety attack. It was 10:30am.

The Meaning of Holistic
On June 10, 2014 in
General

Hayley
Being ‘holistic’ is a lifestyle. It’s not just about eating organic food and being a yogi. It’s about looking at your whole life, from food to career to your home to your relationships and removing what’s toxic from it. And it takes time to change your mindset from what’s easy to what’s right.

Why It's Easy to Be Happy

I was driving to the airport the other day and my three year old, Madeline, starting howling in the back seat. Cracking up. Her laughter was uncontrollable. I turned around and asked her what was so funny. “Mommy,” she said, “Big Bird is wearing a tutu! Oh my gosh! EVERYONE is wearing a tutu!.” And just like that, she was filled with delight. It was that simple.
