Hello YDL students! I am so grateful for each and everyone of you. Thank you for allowing me to do what I love and being a part of my classes. Some of you have been students since the early days when we only had audio classes and pdf downloads! It's exciting to look back and see how far we all have come.
1. In your words, what is yoga?
Yoga is life. I see yoga everywhere. In the line at the post office when you need to be patient, when your kids are getting older and you need to let go of all their baby clothes, when you're training for a race or other event and you can't worry about the outcome of said event or goal, but must learn to love the process, when you're doing something physical challenging and you're not sure you can finish, you remember that you are not your body, those are just sensations. All of this is yoga.
2. What inspires your teaching?
Everyday life inspires my teachings. I am also inspired each time I actually attend a class myself. You can take something away from every teacher.
3. What teachers have impacted you the most?
I love this!! Stacey Stier-Herndon who owns Bikram Yoga Grapevine; both Dawnelle Arthur and Jacki Mahrou who have classes on Yogadowload.com; Mindy Arbuckle and Karen Boeser, who were my yoga teacher trainers and Scott Anderson who always had the most amazing ways to sequence classes.
4. How do you bring yoga in your day to day life?
Pretty much with the things I mentioned in the second question. I practice my yoga "off the mat" more than I actually do the asanas that we typically think of as yoga. I'm constantly trying to be more present, be more aware, be more mindful, be more compassionate, trust in what is and understand that I am not my physical body, I am not just Kylie, I am everything and so are you.
5. How do you think can yoga help our world?
By helping us to understand that we are not separate. There is not me vs. you, us vs. them. We are all the same and should treat each other with kindness and compassion even if we have different views.
6. What are some other passions in your life that benefit your well-being?
Fitness, nutrition and mindset are my other passions and I'm grateful that these passions are my life.
7. What are your favorite places in the world. What do you love about them?
My home because my husband and son are here. Maui because it's absolutely perfect.
