Please share some advice for your yoga students.
The greatest advice I can give is to keep practicing, no matter what. On the days you feel exhausted, bored, frustrated, or overwhelmed with resistance...practice anyway! You will always meet resistance, but you must move through it. Resistance is the wall right in front of your growth and your freedom. Sit with the feeling, acknowledge it, and then practice anyway. Even if you just lie or sit on your yoga mat, that counts! If you commit to practice regularly, magic will happen and you will grow from within.
How does yoga help us?
There are hundreds of physical, mental, and emotional benefits to yoga. In my experience the greatest benefit of yoga is that it allows us to work through our shadows and rigidity so that we can live more freely. Yoga will strengthen and open our bodies, free our minds, and open our often stubborn hearts. And all this can happen if we keep practicing!
Do you have any yoga tips to share?
Don’t try so hard. Be gentle with yourself. I recently read a quote about how trying your best is not always trying your hardest. This is the best yoga tip I can give you. Give effort, but don’t yank or force your way into an asana (posture). Try breathing your way in instead. The fruit of your yoga practice will reveal itself to you when you try less, and feel more.
