Meet our January YDL Teacher of the Month, Channing Grivas! Channing is an empowering vinyasa yoga teacher that never teaches the same thing twice. She weaves inspiration and healing into her challenging flows, and often sings during savasana to soothe her students with her angelic voice. Read on to learn more about this radiant instructor!
When did you start practicing yoga?
I started the physical practice when I was 18, but I've practiced the other limbs my whole life.
What has yoga brought to your life?
Yoga has brought an abundance of creativity, substance, connection, soul, love, understanding, and so much more to my life!
Why did you become a yoga instructor?
I became an instructor on a fluke....or a destiny path fulfillment ;)
What impact can a regular yoga practice have on a person's life?
It completely changed mine- and I've seen it affect others- in the most positive of ways.
Yoga can clean you up, create more awareness of decisions made and the impact of those choices on your life. Yoga heals the most subtle aspects of your life that maybe you can't define but you can feel.....etc
What advice would you give to someone that is just starting yoga?
If you're a newbie, I'd say try as many style and teachers as you can because there's a plethora of styles out there these days.
What is special about the style of yoga you teach?
I teach a vinyasa approach but with an emphasis on healing the body in a sound structural way that accesses energy points within the body in a safe and effective manner to get to the root of your dis-ease. Also, I never teach the same thing twice.
What is your favorite yoga posture to teach, and why?
My favorite posture to teach...hmmm. I thrive on the creative aspects of class, whether its sequencing or getting people into their bodies in a way they haven't experienced before. To pick one pose is difficult. Haha! Maybe half-pigeon - it's my favorite pose to do for its benefits and feelings, and I like to take people into that realm of healing.

Stick with it. Each time you rollout the mat something numinous happens to you. You have to be wiling to step inside knowing you'll never know what you'll get. Sometimes 'the mat' is difficult. Slow down and listen. And sometimes 'the mat' is inspiring. Thrive on!
In 2000, Channing began the journey as a teacher. She aspires to bring her students the utmost possibility of igniting their flame of personal beauty and illumination.Channing has her Bachelors of Exercise Science with an emphasis in Health Promotion from Colorado State University in addition to her Masters of Herbology. She’s a raw-vegan life food chef and energy therapist, offering sessions and gatherings to those seeking an alternative health modality within their lives.
Channing teaches at ONE YOGA and at Core Power Yoga in the Denver area.
