MOON OF FIRST SNOW is the fourth album from N.A.M.A. (Native American Music Award) nominated artist Golana, a.k.a. Scott Cunningham. Comprised of mood-drenched flute pieces backed with rhythmic accompaniment, the album features a selection of nature-themed works performed with profound grace and beauty. The pure elegance of Golana's melodies can be felt strongest on songs like "Time of Long Nights," with its lush symphonic backdrop and ethereal vocal textures, as well as "Beloved," a pastoral piece that pairs acoustic guitar with the artists's flute-playing. Golana's outdone himself this time around; MOON OF FIRST SNOW is pure enchantment!
Scott Cunningham (a.k.a. Golana, the Cherokee word for raven) is a flautist deeply interested in Native American culture and music. On FEATHER IN THE WIND, his third album, Cunningham continues to explore Native American music and themes, painting his meditative flute melodies across a canvas filled with synthesizer and guitar textures. David Chamberlain contributes guitar, mandolin, keyboards, and bass to the album, while other personnel lend help on keys and strings. All this provides a rich, sweeping backdrop for Cunningham's measured, often mournful flute. "Mojave Morning" evokes a sunrise over the Southwestern landscape, while the gently surging "Grandfather's Way," with its melancholic phrases and percussive rattles and toms, seems to contemplate the history of Native American struggle. Natural imagery feels part and parcel of Cunningham's musical conception, and these airy, thoughtful compositions might make listeners feel like a bird soaring above the desert: light, and at peace.
Perhaps the most “open” and receptive of GOLANA´’s albums, Path To The Heart features nine compositions for solo flute. Called “little short of magic” by New Age Retailer Magazine, this album is over fifty six minutes of stillness and healing, and was a NAV Finalist for Best Healing/Meditation Album.
The fifth release from GOLANA finds this innovative master of the Native American flute stretching the boundaries of his meditative, nature inspired music. Created amidst the beauty of the Angeles National Forest, Lone Pine Canyon features eleven compositions, including stunningly beautiful re-settings of two classical works, with strings, guitar, piano and percussion accompanying Golana's entrancing flute stylings.
First Light is a 'best of' collection from six-time Nammy (Native America Music Awards) nominee Golana, acclaimed master of the Native American flute.
