Sheetal

Nurtured in a musical environment - both of Sheetal's parents are musicians and singers as well as deep reservoirs of knowledge regarding the devotional music of Gujarat - Sheetal began studying music at the age of 5 with a focus on western classical violin and Indian classical voice. She continued her studies throughout high school while the ever-present sounds of her Eastern roots filled the rooms of her childhood forming a constant aural connection to her ancestral home. It was upon entering the University of Michigan School of Music and venturing forth from the parochial setting of her Eastern upbringing that Sheetal enveloped herself in the study and performance of jazz and classical western music and became familiarized with western harmony.
