Great beginners flow, builds up nice and slow. It warms up the body and is at the same time very calming! Thanks Dawnelle!

This is my all time favorite yoga class on YogaDownloadApp. When I am out of sorts I come to this class not for the weight loss label but for the magic of the chin lock! It really does calm my nervous system, and changes my outlook on life. I am 44 and starting to have perimenopause symptoms. I would recommend this bandha more than anything to be incorporated into your practice!

Too many chaturangas for beginners and those that have weight to lose. Inclusion of body type variations is needed by YDL.

Enjoyed the class, need some modified versions for beginners

Hi! I am looking for the 21 recipe PDF. I only see 3 or so recipes on the PDF to download. Thanks!

I like the class ... it is well guided... a little difficult to do all the poses but it s yoga practice can only make you perfect. However, music for savasan - the last asan is not really suitable. For savasan, music should be more calming. All in all, would totally recommend to try out the class.

I was disappointed in this class. For a class for people who want to lose weight I feel like there should have been more discussion about modifications for poses. If you have a larger body it is not possible to get your body in certain poses without modifications. I would like more classes to feel inclusive for all body types.
By Andie | Thursday, April 20, 2023
As an experienced yoga person I knew all the poses but the pace was too fast for me especially with a weak lower back. Additionally for those who may be new or maybe out of shape, there was no instruction, no pose modifications and no time for transitions. I found the class monotonous and the music was also not great. I would not do this class again.
By PsychMD | Saturday, January 14, 2023
Felt like a beginner’s class until went into shoulder stand without explaining what to do if you could barely keep your legs close to your abdomen. Then fish pose with no modifications either. :( Those two were disappointing. I’ll keep going, though, I want to see what else is available, hopefully more for beginners like me.

Dawnelle is a very good instructor. Her cues were easy to understand and follow. I consider myself an advanced beginner and this class was hard for me. My muscles were shaking well before the end and I wanted to quit but I am proud of myself that I kept going and finished the 60 minute class. However .... the music was so distractingly awful, especially in Savasana, that I don t think I could do this class again.

loved it!!! crazy how hardvsimple poses can feel in a class like that!!!

nice class as a yoga teacher myself trying to return due to complicated surgery BUT what is that music!? for goodness sake YD we keep telling you about terrible music over voices. awful!

Love a class that incorporates plow pose and shoulder stand. Great flow.

Excellent flow with perfectly clear cues and instructions. Awful awful music especially towards the end.

Incredibly boring and the video quality is not holding up. I have no desire to do 10 vinyasas with chaturanga in a row. Also, how about videos in a weight loss series with non-athletic bodies. Looking for something else.

Great class to get back into a routine! Love the flow and leaves you feeling lean and refreshed when you re done!

Amazing class! Loved it

I ve done this class so many times that it s time I left a review. This is a wonderful class for getting your heart rate up. The poses are basic enough for new yogis to follow, and the cues are on point. I like how the instructor builds on each pose because it s fun to flow when you can anticipate what comes next. Finally, the pacing is just right -- when I first started doing this class I had a hard time keeping up, but with practice, Ive gotten to the point where I work up a sweat but I m never out of breath. Thank you for a great class!

Excellent class :) looking forward to the rest of the weight loss classes! :)
By Raye | Thursday, June 4, 2020
Not for me. Stopped half way thru. This is like speed yoga with a couple hundred chatarangas. Definitely builds heat, but felt like too much risk of injury with speed of transitions
By smezulis | Friday, May 29, 2020
I enjoyed the class, but hesitate calling it an Adv. Beginner and would lean towards Intermediate. Going right into chaturanga and upward dog first with no modifications or instruction says Intermediate to me. I also think with tye title of the class drawing people wanting to lose weight, it may have been a more concipus decision to use a model that wasnt the lowest possible body fat percentage before being underweight almost. Not to be negative to the model she was great and is super healthy, but unrealistic for many of us amd could be discouraging for someone just beginning this journey. I actually liked the repetitive sun salutations as a way to get heart rate up and get in a flow. But I was confused why she queued "tadasana" at the top of each as we never actually came into tadasana.

Ok. Officially the hardest class I have done in a long time. Fantastic, well thought out and executed, but the extra weight I am carrying along side of my severely de-conditioned cardiovascular system made it quite humbling to try to pace myself with my breath and maintain any sort of compressive locks. Truly hilarious to be back at the beginning of my fitness journey, but I am so completely thrilled to have a love/hate experience with a teacher again. Many, many thanks for the kick in the pants I needed to jump start this morning.

Great yoga workout - leaves you feeling fantastic!
By Megan Lee | Monday, March 23, 2020
Can the name of this class and part 2 be changed please? Weight loss is not healthy or sustainable. I would hope yogis would be more progressive and promote movement for the sake of movement not to change our body appearance.

Love the flow and the level. I ll be doing this one again.
By Debbie | Thursday, April 18, 2019
Agree with polecat on the endless repetition of salutations. I would prefer more variety though it certainly gets the blood flowing and no doubt will help with weight loss.
By Katermonkey | Thursday, August 2, 2018
As a class that’s listed for beginners this required a high level of low back flexibility with only one modification being given.

I ve done the 45 minute class every so often, it s intense for me and I always find new things physically, mentally, and emotionally. I also find it very internally stimulating, challenging, and cathartic. Dawnelle is really fantastic.
By polecat | Thursday, June 1, 2017
I had no trouble with the level of the practice, but just can t do the endless repetition of sun salutations and still enjoy the class. The instructor is fabulous - cueing, voice, encouragement, etc., but I find myself trying to do anything to get out of the nonstop sun salutations. Repetition might be good for some, however, I did not enjoy the structure of this class. I really enjoy Dawnelle s other offerings, but will skip repeating this one.
By Geri | Tuesday, May 30, 2017
Agree with many of the comments already made here. i did the 45 minute class which I really enjoyed. I liked the repetitions and increasing pace and add-ons to the flows. I certainly worked up a sweat and enjoyed the VERY clear instructions and explanations. I felt a lot was packed into this medium length class and I appreciated the educational aspects and the focus on the chin lock. However as others have commented I really found the music disturbing - what sounded like dogs straining on a leash beside a busy motorway was not helpful for savasana and this was further problematised by no coming out of savasana led by the instructor.
By yerginay | Saturday, May 27, 2017
I did the 50 min. class, liked the flow and how it helped me warm up. Plus, I like how the stretches make me feel, especially the following day in the upper legs, considering the intensity of the flow. The only negative side was the music. I agre with the viewer who says it is creepy! Yes, unfortunately, it was creepy. I couldn t relax in savasana.
By Emarron | Tuesday, April 18, 2017
As a yoga for weight loss class, I was expecting it to be a bit more cardio and strength. There was some, but also a heavy emphasis for using a chin lock for weight loss... not bad per say, but definitely different than what I was expecting.

This practise is a must!! It is amazing, highly recommended. Once you have mastered class 1 you have to also download class 2, love this practise.

Dawnelle never ceases to amaze... ahhhh, I feel amazing! Thank you once again!
By Beth | Thursday, February 16, 2017
This was a good well paced class. There was time to really get into the pose and feel the stretch vs just flowing without form or really completing the pose which is so common. I didn t notice any horrible music but I think the discordant sounds might be external construction noises.

The instructor and the pace is great, but the background music is awful! The music is strange, jarring electronic sounds - completely inappropriate.
By MarieC | Monday, December 5, 2016
This is a very balanced and challenging practice that left me sweating. The instruction and education is very good as well. On the con side, the "music" was strange to me to the point of being a distraction during savasana. Lastly, why such serious expressions? Smile, yoga is fun. :) I did give this 5 stars because it is a great 60-minute practice which I plan to repeat, regardless of the cons.
By ClassickQC | Tuesday, November 8, 2016
Not too impressed by the 45 mins class. lots of repetition and the music wasn t just wasn t for me.
By karen donaldson | Thursday, September 22, 2016
I was a little shaky even after the 30 minute class. Pretty typical flow done repetitively to keep movement to breath and heart rate up. A throat constriction is incorporated throughout the flow to further stimulate the metabolism. I think it s a pretty good work out for 30 minutes before slowing things down. The full class runs about 38 min. I too, not too crazy about the "carny" music, but otherwise, good class.
By Dana Duff | Thursday, August 11, 2016
This is a terrific class! But the music is so off that it has a negative effect. It s like creepy slasher movie music—savasana is anxiety-producing.
By lulurose | Saturday, May 7, 2016
I didn t expect to enjoy it as much as I did. The 60min class was a great flow, each one building on the last. Definitely got up a sweat and heart rate and had to pause 40 mins in for a breather!
The time for each breath was perfect for me but I think beginners would struggle.
By Stephanie | Wednesday, April 27, 2016
A ton of repetition on the sun salutations.
By Vicki | Monday, February 15, 2016
wish i could review. the video froze 6 times in 13 minutes could not finish
By ljsmom | Wednesday, January 20, 2016
I did the 45 minute class. It was boring. Just a ton on sun salutations and not much else. It gives you a workout but my mind kept wandering.
By ahswales | Monday, December 14, 2015
The perfect blend of familiar and challenging!!
By nikki | Saturday, November 14, 2015
Great class, very effective. Dawnelle has a calm soothing voice and her instructions are easy for me to follow. She is a little more clinical and less encouraging than a typical yoga instructor, but I think its an advantage in this case.
By Mavis | Monday, October 19, 2015
Wow! Such a great class. It says "beginner" in the beginning, but I certainly felt challenged and it was great for when you only have 20min to do your yoga. Loved it!
By Leann | Saturday, April 11, 2015
I have been practicing yoga for 15 years. I never knew what poses activate the thyroid. This session was fast, effective, and educational. It is good whether you are beginning yoga or have been practicing for a while. I find doing the beginner classes and holding poses longer and concentrating on correct alignment is a good way to be sure you don t get into bad habits.
By fetchingbike | Saturday, March 14, 2015
The 60 min class is great. Many repeats of the same poses to form a great flow that will get your heart pumping.
By MirandaCFT | Friday, March 13, 2015
Excellent class, music was rather loud at the end and you could not hear the instructor talk, but otherwise very good.
By Dawn | Thursday, February 12, 2015
I didn t really think that this was a beginner level class... shoulder stand, plow - not really beginner poses. Especially if you are a bit overweight - those are definitely more of a challenge. That being said, I did enjoy most of this class. Quite rigorous, and I liked how she taught how to stimulate the thyroid.
By Megan | Tuesday, January 27, 2015
By Katie | Sunday, January 11, 2015
Awesome class! Very clear instruction. None of the poses were difficult, but put together in this creative sequence, they were very challenging. I would consider myself about an intermediate yogi, and I definitely broke out into a sweat! My only complaint is the somewhat creepy music at the end.
By Sasangasana | Wednesday, December 31, 2014
Very nice class. Maybe a beginner class for yoga, but not for fitness, to my thinking. I am of better than average fitness an this was good work, got my HR to 160. I really liked Dawn s pace and instruction; I prefer when the instructor keeps the instruction coming and Dawn does. The only criticism of her would be that I don t recall any outs being given to the beginner, gentler reminders that child s pose is available when a break is needed, or what might be good modifications to relieve the burn if there is too much. I took this class as part of the weight loss series and the many compression poses are of great value to that end. I will take this class several times again. The noise at the end is awful, I almost suspect it is an anti-savasana message to get up and do something else.
By Cantorbarbra | Thursday, November 27, 2014
I thought the class was good, challenging and learned how to engage the thyroid to assist with weight loss.
By CeliaRose | Monday, November 24, 2014
This is a good class that gets your heart pumping more than other styles, but is relatively easy to follow. It is very energising which is great.
By Jennifer Coken | Thursday, November 13, 2014
I n a beginner and found this class challenging - but the right amount of challenge. Because the instructor takes you through the poses so many times, you do get the hang of the breath and the flow, which I enjoyed.
By Brizzo67 | Sunday, November 9, 2014
I really, really liked this class and will do again. Instructor does give lots of instructions all the way through so if don t like that, may be annoying. I like and need it because allows me to do the pose correctly and get max benefit from it. I didn t think it was fast paced once we starting flowing. Seemed medium to me. It was a little slow to start (I did 60 minute class) but I think that s because it s a beginner class. She pulled in Bikram poses often and I LOVED that. She is an excellent instructor not only teaching how to do Powse but the breath which is really the key to all of this. Only negative is the annoying music at end. Loud and not relaxing.
By Beth | Friday, October 31, 2014
Brilliant class. Really annoying noises starting during spinal twists and they become even more distracting during shavasna, making it almost impossible to relax too, what a shame for Dawnella to ruin her otherwise beautifully flowing class.

Slow going at first, but stick with it. It gets good. The 20 minute option is awesome. No excuse not to do it.
By gboulka | Friday, July 4, 2014
The detailed instruction on how to get into some of the poses was great. The body heats up nicely and you move steadily through the poses with the breath.
By melcreada | Sunday, June 29, 2014
A great workout, made me sweat a bit. Easy to follow and definitely one of my favorite classes I ve taken so far. I am hovering between beginner and intermediate, so this was perfect.
By Kim | Thursday, June 19, 2014
It is a great workout. It should state that it is a 30 min class since the length is 25 min. My interpretation of the length time would be "no more than" time stated.
By Aniko | Saturday, April 26, 2014
Good workout, I felt it and was really hard to concertante on the breath and all the details by the end. I felt great after it. The only thing what is my fault I can t make the step in efficient, I could handle some tips as it occurs a lot in this flow.

This class is one of my favourite workout-yoga classes. Cueing is very clear, and the 45 min. is perfect. It s quite challenging, but just enough to feel accomplished afterwards and not overwhelmed. Highly recommended!

Nice class, but the music at the end is too loud and drowns out the teacher. The music is too edgy and does not promote relaxation at the end.

This is the Yoga Download I have stayed with. I want to lose weight and it is simply melting away with this class.
I started with the 45 min class and had to give up as I was exhausted but I persevered and am now doing the 60 min class with relative ease. That s an improvement over only a couple of days.
Dawnelle is wonderful and I feel challenged and capable as I keep up with her. I am only an intermediate /beginner but can manage this. Usually I do not like flow yoga as I find it hard to keep up but this is fine for me.
Am getting ready to move on soon to Yoga for Weight Loss 2.

I must give this class a 5. Honestly, she s great the flow was nice intensity excellent. I wanted to throw in the towel halfway through and I ve done some of the classes rated advanced so don t let the beginner class title fool you. Keep pressing on through you ll make it. WONDERFUL CLASS,!!!
By Kayla | Saturday, April 20, 2013
This is a great class - don t let the "1" or "advanced beginner" level fool you - it IS a great workout! Out of the many yogadownload.com classes I have done, this ranks up near the top for me.
By Nicole | Monday, March 18, 2013
Dawnelle is awesome. Yes, this is a fast-paced class, but that s why it says intermediate.... it s GREAT!
By Goli | Tuesday, January 29, 2013
Your body will definitely warm up and you will certainly feel it the day of and the next day. With that said, I don t LOVE this class because of the quick pace and maybe it is further than an "advanced beginner" class as it is promised. But with practice it becomes easier. Just don t be surprised if it moves along too quickly at first.

I liked this class for the following reasons. 1. Dawnelle gave good descriptions of her poses and even cued us to the next move. 2. This one included a video, which is better for beginners and visual learners 3. The poses flowed very naturally and felt good-no awkward transitions and balanced each other out. 4. I did this weight loss 1 as a warm up to the weight loss 2, which was a very good idea-even though they repeated each other, the weight loss 2 was more intense and faster paced.
By mom2two | Wednesday, September 26, 2012
There s a skip toward the end of the 30 minute class that drives me nuts -- but I love this. My body heat stays up for hours & I can just feel the excess weight melting off.
By Rachel | Saturday, July 28, 2012
I liked how long we held the poses and the level of sweat generated (some but not ridiculous). I am in between intermediate and advanced levels of yoga--take note if you are actually a beginner.
My only complaints--I didn t like how rehearsed she sounded, but then again I am new to online classes. I was expecting more of a yoga-teacher-in-a-class-who-happened-to-be-taped thing. The other thing was the music. At the end, it sounded like something from a horror movie. It made me really uncomfortable.
By Anne | Wednesday, March 21, 2012
An excellent workout, particularly loved the fish pose at the end which stretched my back out nicely to finish. Plenty of sweat, nice flow, not too complex, simple repetition helped with keeping one breath, one movement because you knew what was coming next. Poses held for the right amount of time - not too long.
By Sarah | Monday, March 5, 2012
This is not beginner level!!
By lulu*lotus | Sunday, July 17, 2011
Phew! Hot work - glad I was at home and could take my t-shirt off!! Really enjoyed it though and would certainly recommend. Thank you for leaving the music on for a few minutes of savasana - I m usually very bad for just jumping straight up, but the music made me lie for a while.
By Suzanne Horn | Tuesday, August 10, 2010
I love this class. It s simple poses, but the flow is fast enough to really get you sweating. I wouldn t call the 60 minute class beginner, but maybe the shorter versions are less intense.
By Cara | Saturday, July 24, 2010
Dawnelle is amazing! This is a vigorous and challenging class that had me sweating like the vinyasa classes at Sunstone. Nice Savasanah music as well. Can we get some of these classes with more upbeat yoga music as is played in the hot yoga studios?
By margotmr1 | Friday, July 16, 2010
Loved it! Great class with nice flow. Will definitely do again!
By Heidi Elder | Thursday, January 21, 2010
This is a great workout and i feel so much better after working through the poses. I find myself feeling so much better about life and my joints feel lubricated and it eases the pain of my arthritus.
Thank you.
By Leslie Keener | Thursday, January 21, 2010
This is a hard class! I m not sure if this is ideal for beginners in that it s very challenging; however, it makes sense and the poses aren t hard to understand. So, it s easy to understand, but hard to do. I really do like it, though. Once I do it, I feel like I can conquer anything. It is a good challenge and my favorite yogadownload that I m doing these days.
By Sarah Paajanen | Thursday, January 21, 2010
I really enjoyed this class - it was fun and challenging, however beware if you have any neck problems - the neck/chin compressions would most likely aggravate any existing problems pretty bad.
By Erica Jasna Struble | Sunday, December 13, 2009
This is a great class! Your heart really gets pumping and you feel great after. I am an intermediate student and felt challenged by the intensity of the class. The cuing was great and I never felt lost during the class. Simply awesome!
