I really appreciate this class. It s a perfectly paced and minimally cued standing series class for the experienced Ashtanga practitioner.

This was my first experience with an Ashtanga practice. I liked the rhythm to the style and can see that over time it can be quite meditative once the cadence of the movements are more familiar. Thank you Jack.

I’m loving this 21 day challenge! This was my first Ashtanga class and I really enjoyed it. It was definitely a challenge for me but I like challenges and it wasn’t too far out of my reach. Will definitely do it again!

I could do so much!! This was one of the most interesting practices so far. Thank you, I feel very tired :) my legs are shaking

The curriculum of the course is quite good and original.
The class itself FELT quite boring to me.
I suggest to put more joy in the voice.
By refering to an asana, please always use the same name. I do not mind abreviations, but then preferably always the same.
A bit more reference to the breathing and to the part of the body we are putting our attention on.
One of my biggest teachers told me that doing yoga excersises is not about the dificulty of the poses, but about your connection with your breath and the connection with your body and this with full awareness.
Breath-body-awareness.
Something was missing here fro me to give me a feeling of being in a safe class.

My first Ashtanga class, definitely a different experience, not sure if its for me but I enjoyed the challenge. Really appreciate the options to discover different styles and practices on this 21-Day challenge

This class was very slow to get into the poses and was not my favorite style. Lotus pose was the most interesting part - didn’t arrive there until 28 minutes or so into the class. Liked the instructor, though!

It’s been most of the year since I was able to get to an Ashtanga studio. This was a great refresher. It would be hard to follow without any experience.

This was a challenging class for Day 7. I am not familiar yet with a lot of the postures so I found it too quick. I tended to do my own thing, like Tree pose, or something I knew, rather than rush into a pose I knew nothing of.

Loved this. Great stretches for hamstrings!

Another new instructor for me and I enjoyed it. I liked his flow and pace very much.

great class, just some of final poses were too advanced for me. really good instructions.

Great quick standing series workout. 33 minutes to savasna - not 40m. But great way to get some body heat quickly. Exxcellent cues

extremely helpful

Good ashtanga class. I wish more instructors would teach like Jack--no fluff or chatter, just a simple recitation of the pose with a couple of gentle reminders.

After taking many years of classes with Jack at Kindness, I am thrilled to be able to practice with him again. He makes the poses look effortless. He challenges me to meet and move past what I believe is my edge on my mat. I always feel stronger, longer, and empowered after the practice! Thank you jack for another amazing class!

This class was a nice change of pace for me. I am no student of Ashtanga so I wasn t sure what to expect. I really enjoyed the longer holds in the standing postures. I was actually looking for a class with less chatarungas since my shoulders were a bit sore today, but he does several rounds of sun salutations A&B at the start, so I was definitely warm! There are not very many modifications, but if you have been practicing for a while it is easy to modify these poses for your level of practice or hold one of the steps he gives along the way (for example, I do not have half-lotus in my practice so I just held figure 4). The teaching style was very regimented and no music, but I think that was just this particular class. I enjoyed the simple cues and no chatting, so I could focus on my breath. I would have enjoyed some more restorative poses at the end instead of going straight to savasana.

this class is amazing. I will be using it in my daily practice, a no frills class with simple but some very difficult postures (for me). I like the way he builds up on the Lotus, something Ive never been able to do but now seems a possibility. A calm voice with good instruction and encouragement..

Overall a Good class. Flow was a little fast for me and I always wish Ashtanga would do a nice quad stretch in the series. It’s heavy on hamstrings.

Glad to learn some new, advanced poses. I found his teaching style dry and I felt a lack of connection to him compared to many other teachers.

Not my usual but oddly calming and strengthening!

Salutations set A & B very didactic. Overall built heat and energized but could use better flow between positions.

Jack gives great positioning cues. I enjoyed this class and will come back!

not too long, definitely to the point
By liniyogini | Wednesday, June 10, 2020
This class had great cues and reminded me of the inspiring and strong practice of Ashtanga. Being that it is short we didn t do any restorative or therapeutic poses, but it serves a great heat building, body opening and strengthening class!

This class was amazing! Please put more Ashtanga videos on YDL!

This guy is a Great teacher. I’m completely smitten with the Ashtanga practice.
Thanks for making this practice accessible to me.

The class felt like a couple different sessions smashed together. There were so many sun salutation a s in the beginning I thought I might go a bit mad. Then the standing postures weren t really broken up by any vinyasas. It was missing some standard standing postures that I was expecting. Over all, it s a lighter workout for intermediate and advanced folks. I ll probably use it again, but it won t fit into my regular schedule.

Good explanation of poses if you are already somewhat experienced. I would have liked if he would offer more options for poses if you are unable to achieve them.

This is my go to when I need a quick ashtanga fix!
By astipkala | Monday, February 4, 2019
Great workout but I feel like this site could benefit from a bit more explanation on breakdown of the workout or just allow users to do savasana on their own- ie when a workout is listed as 40 minutes, I wouldn t have expected that we d move into savasana at 33 minutes. I feel like a better use of those last 7 minutes would have been some floor stretches when the instructor moved to seated on the mat. It didn t quite feel like a proper wrap up before savasana.

I love Jack s classes. His cueing is straightforward without being mechanical, and he has a great way of providing an intense session without making it too serious. This class is a nice challenge and is a wonderful way to start the day!

Great class. Quick and to the point. Energising, but also challenging. I m including this once a week in my practice!

Straight into it and no props. I liked the straightforwardness and it was a good set.
By Keith Allen | Friday, October 19, 2018
Simple, powerful, and energizing. Thanks for a perfect Ashtanga (standing) practice!
By lainie | Tuesday, August 21, 2018
All standing poses but nice flow, good heat. The twists came at a good time.

moved too fast for arthritic joints. i am not old. i don t want to lose my fitness level, but increase more strength. holding down dog has become impossible for my knuckles, thumb base and wrists and they say yoga is good for RA and "they" must be high. i wish there were more practices for ppl who are losing muscle in hands and wrists and modifications for wrists that are turning out clockwise

Really great, quick ashtanga practice. I will return to this often!

Very good!

Jake I really enjoyed this sequence, a shorter version that is far easy for me personally to sustain on a daily basis. Also I really appreciated how clear and concise your guidance was, it allowed me to focus inward more deeply. Also I thought your closing was a lovely acknowledgment of the discipline it does take to sustain self care like this, so that is a really lovely piece of gratitude to end with and start the day with, thank you! Namaste *

I loved the sun salute flow; got the heart rate up. I like a standing/balancing practice. Work hard for about 33 minutes (I could’ve gone another 5/10 minutes) and then straight to savasana. I really liked that he does the class with you; not instructing a model and I like that there was no distracting music.
