I liked this class - I enjoy the cues for breathing, I agree it was a bit fast for me at times but I adapted my rythmn to the video and caught up most of the times
Thank you :)

Shortened ashtanga class. Straightforward.

I agree with previous reviewers that this is more of an immediate-levels and above class. Being mindful of your body and making your OWN adjustments are necessary for reaping the benefits. Overall, I enjoyed the class and may come back to it as I grow my practice.

Even though I can t make the transitions as quickly as they do, I found this to be a good all over class. Loved the breathing and holding. I also appreciate including the ommm at the beginning and end of the practice

I liked this - very straightforward...I added a backbend and an inversion at the end. I like classic yoga.

Quite a vigorous practice for me as a way to wake up but certainly proves that one gets better as one practices more! Wonderful flow (of course).

I love this class. My Ashtanga practice has been off and on for 3 years due to injuries and not practicing true dedication. This teacher is clear, the sequence is taught well, and she maintains alignment with tradition. I really really really enjoyed this class. Perfect for morning wake-up. I do want to get back to practicing and working towards the full primary series, but as I make my way there, this class and teacher are going to be my go to every morning with little hesitation or dread like I would sometimes feel with the full practice. Namaste!!!!

This is a great morning class! I loved it!

Oops, I forgot to read the whole description of this class and so was kind of surprised to realize that I was practicing the Ashtanga primary series. While this series used to be good for me first thing in the day, now that I m older I prefer to have more gentle warm ups when I wake up. Otherwise, the class is immaculately taught and could be very helpful for me at other times.

A great pace and extended breaths for morning.

Not impressed with this class.
The good things:
instructor has a calming voice
relatively clear and easy to follow
the bad things:
not fluid at all
the poses didn t sync well
the long breathing sessions in between every single pose took away from the connectedness of the class
didn t energize, refresh, renew, any of the feelings you look for in a morning yoga class

Anna gives very clear instruction! These poses are certainly advanced beginner but I would not say this is an "all levels" class. I was looking for something a little more challenging.

I enjoyed this class and certainly feel better for it this morning after a poor night s sleep. I liked how she counted through the inhalation and exhalations which I found grounding.

Gorgeous! Loved this back to basics class. The canine instructor add another element of delight.

I love this class. If you like ashtanga yoga and have enough experience to know what the poses are, I think you ll like it too.

I like the consistent counting of this class, but it is something you need to be prepared for if you re not used to the instructor counting you through everything. I assumed the modifications I already knew when I needed them. She talks you through very few of them. There is a bonus dog in this video! That s a new one!

An okay class. I appreciate the no-nonsense breath cueing/lack of chatter. I did this practice within 10 minutes of getting out of bed. I feel better than when I woke up, but not quite as open and limber as some of the other classes on YDL. I would classify this as an everyday Namaste class, not you ll feel it. While okay, it still left something to be desired for the intensity I was expecting.

Just what I was looking for. Warmed me up and got me moving. Basic enough for anyone...try it! Could have used some background music.

Amazing. I am on vacay and this is exactly why I joined yoga download! The instructor was clear and I felt like I had a private one on one session. A++++.

If you like Sun Salutations you will like this class. I didn t care for it as it became very redundant. There are no instructions of how to hold the pose, and I felt there should be some guidance.

A great class for people who are familiar with Ashtanga, but don t have time for a full practice of the Primary series. I d say this is really an Intermediate class, not All Levels, since modifications are not really offered. In addition, it moves very quickly. If people don t already know the poses being called, it s going to be impossible to keep up. However, I found the no-nonsense instruction really refreshing. I hate being constantly cued, although at times I needed more time to get into the poses here. I have practiced yoga for at least 10 years, but haven t done Ashtanga for quite a while. This was a nice reminder of how invigorating the practice can be.

Good wake up!

Great class! Do-able for all levels but also challenging and awakening.
By surfsidesuz | Wednesday, April 30, 2014
Nice way to get moving in the morning and feel energized. Not too strenuous for those who are more advanced. Enjoy!
By Jenafleur | Tuesday, April 29, 2014
Great class for the morning! Refreshing, short Ashtanga variation and not too much to have to think about apart from breathing ( about all I can manage first thing!)
By Overstreet6 | Wednesday, April 9, 2014
This starts out quick and gets right into moves. I definitely would not use it for morning yoga. I think I need to stretch now and the other morning yoga s I ve done on here warm you up first. She moves fast right from the start. Maybe for the afternoon - but definitely not a morning class for me.

I will start by saying that my body is much more open than it was 40 minutes ago! However, my biggest issues lie in the description of this class. First, this class level seems like an intermediate or advanced intermediate level class because there are very little cues. The instructor gets you into the asana, but then really focuses on telling you when to breath. There are many who will love that factor, but I tend to prefer more cuing. The class begins with sun salutations but the rest of the class is mostly made up of longer holds without flowing. Some transitions felt redundant as well. It is still a high quality class, but the descriptions can be misleading.

Pleasant class for waking up, good warm up followed my interesting standing poses. I wish the instructor gave a little bit more cueing, and that there were less chatarungas.

Good class - not too hard. Definitely better for early morning; I ve taken it when I first woke up and mid-morning after doing a few chores, and I think it s much more beneficial first thing.

Love this class! Fast flow is a little challenging first thing in the morning, but it s a good wake up ;)

I really enjoyed the class. it was like a mini Astanga class (without as many vinyasas between poses), that I can do if I don t have time for a full Astanga class.
as per the description, this method is based on Astanga, hence moving into sun salutations immediately AS warmup. also in the Astanga method is 2 count breaths for sun salutations, instead of 4, which is why people felt a bit left behind. it s a mindset that has to be cultivated to get used to it.
the class is described as intermediate, so we are expected to recognize & know the poses based on their names. if you re not familiar with the names, or the Astanga sequence, I could see where it might be a little more difficult to follow. like I said, I really liked it, and will do this frequently.

Good simple flow. Lacked alignment ques, and ques to bring you deeper into the understanding of your body.

Overall, I enjoyed this class & liked the teacher s style. I agree with some of my fellow reviewers that I would have liked more warm up, and I thought some of the transitions were awkward. But it was a good class and I m definitely going to check out some of her other ones.
By ljsmom | Friday, August 2, 2013
Good news is you do a lot of poses. Bad news is the class moves very quickly. I have never had an instructor move thru sun salutations so quickly. Also for the standing series there is constant talking. On any poses with a long hold she counts your breaths to 5 so there is no chance to reflect inwardly. There is a bit more silence on floor at end.

While I do feel more energized after completing this class, I m just not a fan of the style. I agree with the other reviewers that the instructor moved into sun salutations way too quickly. I did this class after work, and even though I m not just waking up, I still prefer a little more warm up before getting into sun sal. flows. The instructor only offered alignment cues about twice during the full class. I am not a beginner, but I appreciate cues reminding me to use good form and alignment throughout a class. She mostly told you which pose to head into, and then counted out breaths for each pose. I did like holding some of the poses longer, but more flow would have been nice.

I agree with one of the other comments, that the warm up is not done very well. For a wake up yoga class I would expect more gradual warming up, but this class goes right into sun salutations. The poses are good though and I did like the long holds. However, there are other wake up yoga classes on YDL that I much prefer over this one.

Loved the OMs and the chihuahua :)
I would have appreciated less counting so I could focus in more.
This class is long holds and move to the next, just like another person commented. There are plenty of vinyasas sprinkled throughout, but it is a not a flow class.

i love the simplicity of this class; it s challenging in the best way. this class leaves me feeling energized, focused and ready for my day ahead! thank you Alanna!

Good class with basic poses and holds to start the day.
By JudyL | Friday, April 19, 2013
The instructor didn t give any queues for pose positioning and corrections. Also, if you like flow and transitioning thru positions this class isn t for you. It s discrete holds and then move into next.
By tinderbox | Tuesday, March 26, 2013
Perfect for the morning. She gives clear instructions without too much touchy-feely stuff that I m just not ready for early in the morning. Nice flow at the beginning. The instructor is encouraging and natural without too much talk.

I enjoyed the sun salutations of this class but felt like I needed a little more of a warm up first. It moved very quickly into vinyasas and in the morning I prefer to start with some more movement (cat/cow breathing, etc) before I m fully ready to do that. The instructor doesn t give any cues or helpful hints which in part is great because there s less talking but a few might have been nice to ensure I wasn t falling out of form. The length of the class is great for fitting into a morning schedule!

Very nice way to wake up! I had been dealing with tension in my neck and shoulders that morning and felt 100% better after this class. Alanna s style is very unique. I never expected to see a chihuahua in a yoga video, but in hindsight I love that she had her pet with her. Very cute! The OM s were also refreshing. I don t get out to the yoga studio often and I get a little OM-sick.
