I did this upon awakening and it felt great.

I agree with other reviews on the need to warm up first. The second pose is cow face and there is no prep before that to get you into it. I did a 20 minute Keith Allen class prior which was what was needed.
Once the class got going I really liked all the poses for the hips. It felt a lot like a yin class just focused on hip pose then hip pose then hip pose. About 1 minute holds but did the trick and my hips feel nice and loose.

Great hips opener class, but a a 10-minute warmup would have made it perfect.

Beautiful hip release and indeed hypnotic- thank you!

I felt AMAZING after this. Yes there were a few bits that took a few seconds to follow but I think it was more the camera angle than Channing s cues. Anyway I caught on pretty quick. I m not really into the "spiritual" aspects of yoga but the singing at the end was really pretty and added to the relaxation. Great for a post-run practice; I ll do this one again!

I loved this class so much - it was just what I needed. I m a long distance triathlete and spend hours and hours every week cycling and running so my hips are perpetually tight. Most classes barely scratch the surface when it comes to the level of hip tightness I contend with, so the lovely extended holds in this class were amazing. And I totally disagree with some of the other reviewers who said there wasn t enough instruction. Perhaps that would be the case for true beginners, but I deeply appreciated the thoughtful concise cueing, and also the quiet time that allowed me to just settle into the long holds of the poses. Will definitely be coming back to this one frequently. I m also not sure why others suggested this class would need a warm-up. I was happy to jump right into it!

Great balance of work and release. The longer holds were challenging, but rewarding. The instruction was minimalist and no-nonsense, but every piece was useful.

I love this class! This is my go-to class after a long bike ride. Thank you Channing!

Intense! The poses and length given were perfect to breathe into the knots in my hips. I thought the lack of direction was perfect for meditation while in poses; but I can see where a lot of beginners would feel left out.

This class was pretty -meh- for me. I didn t read the reviews first, just saw the four star average and thought it would be good. The instructor gives almost no verbal cues and there is no warmup. I was also uncomfortable with the lack of transitions from pose to pose. The long holds in things like Warrior 2 seemed, to me at least, to actually make my hips tighter (by making them work) than to loosen them. I m familiar with the idea of work-stretch-work-stretch to really open them up, but that is usually in a more flowing fashion. I felt like if the point of doing the class was to OPEN your hips, why would you be WORKING the muscles? The assumption (at least mine) is that you ve already worked your hips, now you need to open them. So all in all, I didn t really care for this class. Also, when the instructor did speak, her voice didn t seem soothing as much as bored.

I also agree that you should definitely warm up before this class and already do some gentle hips openers in preparation. I did like the long holds, but the verbal ques were too minimal for me, especially in transitions, and when the model was facing away from the camera the video was also not much help with figuring out what I was supposed to be doing. I won t be doing this class again, but will be checking out some other classes by Channing.

Yet another fantastic class by Channing! It is always such a pleasure to practice with you. I would support the claim that this class is accessible to "advanced beginners," as long as they are mindful of what their bodies are telling them throughout the longer asanas. There is a lot to be said for practicing your listening skills and knowing your own limitations! (Hint hint, nay-sayers.)
;)
Anyway, great sequencing and style choice for a deep hip opening class! Channing, the effort you put into your classes really shows and is truly appreciated. :)

This is one of my favourite classes on the site. I cannot believe how much it opens my hips, and I use it all the time when I travel. While some reviewers didn t like the lack of instruction, I preferred it, as this is a Yin-type class where you really need to just let yourself be in the pose quietly for a while. I agree that it s better if you re warmed up, but I usually do this after other exercise.

This was ok. Warm up was needed, and more instruction ( I hate looking up to see what they are doing- I think great instuctors have great verbal cues, you don t even have to look). My hips feel pretty good after though. I read the reviews first and did my own 10 minute warm up. Can t imagine doing this routine "cold".

Great hip opener, but you ll definitely have to do your own warm up first. Beginners may find it too challenging both in terms of slight lack of alignment instruction and difficulty. I enjoyed it though and will be back.

Ouch! As a beginner, this class was too much for me. I liked the stretching, but could only hold the poses for 1/3 of the time instructed, as it was too painful to hold them any longer. I felt that the instructor was very lax about offering instruction and modifications, which didn t help. I might try this again once I am more flexible.

I feel very open and relaxed... However, I wish there was a little more guidance from the teacher. But I guess I can t complain too much since this is the most open my hips have felt... maybe ever!

Not my favorite. I usually like hip openers but there was much that appealed to me here

I liked the somewhat Yin-style of this class…starting immediately in some long-held stretches. I know some people wanted to be warmed up but it can actually be really good for us (physically and mentally) to begin like this. I liked the practice…and I appreciate a low-key neutral teaching voice. That being said, I wanted to feel more of a connection with the teacher. I think it would have helped if she had made eye contact or something to establish a connection at the beginning of the practice. Then people would "trust" the journey we were about to embark on a little more. Otherwise, it was a lovely break from the same-old Sun Salutations (thank you!)

Great pacing. Easy to follow. Absolutely challenging with the extended holds. I am actually going to incorporate modified versions of this into my clients sessions tomorrow!

After a long run yesterday, I definitely felt this one. Very challenging as a newbie to yoga this year, but my hips sure needed it! I followed the other reviewers advice and warmed up first. Whew. It might take me a while to get comfortable with this one.

I agree with the other reviewers, definitely warm up first. The class jumps immediately into some fairly intense poses. I think for the advanced beginner rating, more verbal cues would be helpful for some of the poses. Overall though I enjoyed the focus on the hips and the pace. I appreciated the long pose holds!

Just what I needed, My 4 yr old joined me for the last pose and savasana, My hips feel great! Namaste.

I liked the focus of this class - hip openers - something that I really needed. However, I have to agree with some of the other reviewers that mentioned that you need to warm up and center before you start this video. Also, some of the transitions were awkward. I was able to catch up since you hold the positions for so long (which I liked!), but more detail on some of them would have been appreciated, as well as smoother transition - since this pegged as a beginner class.

I enjoyed the sequence of postures but there was no warm-up. The teacher started the class with long holds of hip opening postures. Hip opening poses are intense and my body would have benefited from a warm-up in the beginning.

I love the concept of this hip opening class, only make sure your room is really warm or you have warmed up first because there s no warmup.

Great workout. It was tough and my legs feel it. But it is what I needed. Thanks!
By Yumi | Friday, January 16, 2015
Enjoyed the long holds of poses, but hoped to have more instruction to alignment
By Angelique | Thursday, January 15, 2015
The class offered a nice series of stretches but I found it a little difficult to follow as a true beginner.

No warm up, no transitioning between poses. Won t be doing this one again.

Very good hip openers. Good cues.
By trini9939 | Saturday, November 22, 2014
Deep into the hips. With my scoliosis I need depth I. My stretches. With the length of the hold in the poses I can feel the relief in my hips immediately

I had difficulty with the video and relying only on the verbal cues was challenging, especially during transitions. When I did find a pose I appreciated how long they were held. Overall, I feel like I missed some stretches and holds
By Hugrox | Friday, September 5, 2014
Insufficient detail to fine tune the pose. Could not always see the yogi as he was facing away from the camera. Did target the hips, as promised.
By Sunshination | Thursday, August 14, 2014
First, I would recommend warming up before this class starts, since it goes into deep stretching right off the bat. No morning yoga on this one! Plus, the poses were held for too long, often with long bouts of silence. While it was helpful for the model, since he got little massages in-between, it wasn t helpful for me.

Lovely class. I feel so open. A little more verbal instruction would have been good. A couple of poses I hadn t done before.
By Shayne | Tuesday, June 24, 2014
The flow felt very awkward and I didn t think the instructor gave nearly enough guidance. It also just jumped into the poses without any sort of centering beforehand. I don t think I ll be doing this class again.

good lower body workout. not just opening hips, but strengthening legs, hips, buttocks, as well. I enjoyed it. I m sure I ll try this one again.

My hips loved it! Beautiful chant at the end.

Good class, but I had trouble following because the camera angle never changed, so sometimes I couldn t see what I was supposed to be doing.

Loved this class. Plenty of time to really relax and breathe in each pose. Channing is one of my favorite teachers, and I was happy to find her classes online.

Great poses and length of time held for each pose. Would have liked more body cues.

Wonderful great flow. Definitely works the inner thighs and hips. Thank you for this class and thank you for the smooth transitions into poses.

This class was INTENSE for my hips. Holy cow. It does start kind of abruptly, so if you need time to get into the right mindset, you need to plan ahead. Otherwise, I loved what this did for my body, and it was a great blend of stretching and creating heat.
By DeAnne | Thursday, March 27, 2014
Awesome class, I really needed hip openers today. Poses held for long time and not a lot of chit chat so you can really relax into them. Beautiful savasana.
