Alex Cordoba
Alex Cordoba began practicing yoga in 2001. Her cousin introduced her to the Bikram series while on a family vacation in Key West, Florida. An athlete in transition – Alex had just decided to leave behind her collegiate career – she was searching for something more holistic to replace the years and years of formal athletics. And from that very first class she fell in love. It was when on the mat that Alex felt truly at home. Like a voice is to a singer or a paintbrush to an artist, yoga became just that for Alex’s life…it was her muse through which to share her genius, her passion, to the world.
Alex took her first training through CorePower Yoga in Denver, Colorado receiving her Hot Yoga Teacher Certification in December of 2007. However, it was while practicing at Yoga Lamat in Curridabat, San Jose, Costa Rica under the guidance of Juan Pablo Barahona and Marianela Ortiz that Alex discovered for the first time the beauty that was awaiting her through the potency and gift of Anusara Yoga®. While abroad Alex took her first Immersion with Noah Maze, recognized in the yoga community as one of the most advanced and proficient practitioners and teachers of Anusara Yoga®. Since returning to the United States Alex has studied with Jamie and Justin Allison, John Friend, again with Noah Maze, and Tantric scholar, Dr. Douglas Brooks. Alex continues her daily exploration into the heart of yoga with local Denver instructors Buffy Barfoot and Cheryl Deer. Additionally, Alex has studied Restorative Yoga with Judith Lasater and completed Anjali Restorative Training with Shannon Paige Schneider, founder and yoga director of om time yoga centers and Anjali Restorative Yoga.
“The moment I began to listen to my hearts messages of love before the judgments of the outside world, I truly began to live. I was no longer afraid or embarrassed to be me. The faces of those who believed in me came out from behind the illusory curtain of ridicule and only had stories to share of life being lived and dreams being followed. Stepping into the unknown is no longer a black abyss but filled with color. When I stepped two feet in I became free.” ~ Alex
In Alex’s classes she weaves together yoga philosophy, asana, pranayama, laughter, messages to inspire and uplift so that she can offer a unique and creative journey to her students every time they come to the mat. She encourages her students to practice compassion and patience towards others and themselves, to invite breath in, to find laughter, humility, and grace on the mat, and to be open to the possibilities and the adventures that arise when one dances with uncertainty.
Yoga has taught Alex that we need look no further than inside ourselves to see our own divinity and grace and to feel the universal pulsation alive! It has taught Alex to breathe and to find comfort in the fact that everything is as it should be and to embrace her life just as it is, to step into the current of grace and trust the ride.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that frightens us. Yet we were born to make manifest the glory of the divine light that is within us. ” ~ Marianne Williamson
